Sarens is proud to announce its role in the successful weighing and transport of the BorWin epsilon jacket and topside under a subcontract to Dragados Offshore in Cadiz, Spain.  This complex operation, scheduled between 19 February and 30 April 2025, highlights Sarens’ expertise in heavy transport and engineering solutions for the offshore wind sector.

The offshore grid connection project BorWin5 of the German transmission system operator TenneT plays a crucial role in connecting an offshore wind farm to the German mainland, contributing to a more sustainable energy future. Sarens was entrusted with the intricate task of loading the project's jacket and topside onto a barge for their final journey to the North Sea. We were selected for this project thanks to our global experience in heavy transport and lifting, as well as our ability to provide a tailored transport solution unmatched by competitors. "Working with Sarens means not only gaining access to high-tech equipment but also benefiting from decades of expertise," said José Mª Martínez Gutiérrez, Sarens Key Account Manager. "Despite weather challenges, our team successfully executed this critical operation, ensuring a smooth load-out for Dragados Offshore," stated Willem Ditmer, Senior Project Manager.

For this project, Sarens deployed a range of specialised equipment, including almost 2.000T of transport stools, 48 load cells and 500T jacks, and 476 axle lines of SPMTs. The use of SPMTs was essential for transporting the massive topside over a distance of more than 1,5 kilometres, while transport stools were carefully selected to meet the required capacity. The quick installation and removal of these elements ensured an efficient operation and less impact on our client’s daily work.

Despite encountering three weeks of heavy rainfall, which complicated the assembly of the transport stools, Sarens' experienced team adapted swiftly to ensure the project remained on track. The removal of 2.000T of stools from beneath the topside was another major challenge, as the structure had numerous protruding parts requiring careful manoeuvring. Despite these challenges, they were removed safely and in time.

As a result of the collaboration between Dragados Offshore and Siemens Energy for their customer TenneT, the BorWin5 elements are now on their way to the North Sea. Sarens is committed to continuing to deliver innovative solutions for the offshore wind industry in the future.
