Sarens is proud to announce the successful completion of a key infrastructure project in Douai, France. The project was undertaken for MBB Metallic Bridges of Belgium s.a. The primary objective of this project was to construct a pedestrian bridge linking the Douai train station to the new EuraDouai business district, facilitating safe passage for pedestrians across the railway tracks.

The installation of the footbridge, which spans approximately 300 meters, involved lifting three separate sections, each measuring 54 meters in length and 6 meters in width, and weighing 145 tonnes. Sarens was tasked with these complex lifting operations using the CC 6800 crane, a piece of equipment chosen for its impressive lifting capacity and reliability. The crane, configured with a Super Super Lift (SSL) and equipped with a main boom, super-lift, and 700 tonnes of total counterweight, was essential for the precise placement of the bridge sections.

The project commenced on June 3, 2024, and was completed by June 28, 2024. Despite the tight schedule, Sarens's team, led by Project Managers Arnaud Mathias and Abderahim Bouazza, executed the lifts efficiently, with operations conducted mainly at night to minimise disruptions to train services. The first section of the bridge was installed from midnight on Saturday, June 15, to Sunday, June 16, with subsequent sections installed on June 22-23 and June 24, 2024. This careful scheduling ensured minimal impact on daytime train operations.

The logistics of the project were challenging, requiring the transportation of the crane and its components to the site in Douai, with 54 trucks needed for the installation. Once on-site, the crane's setup and mobilisation were meticulously planned to ensure safety and efficiency. The team faced the challenge of relocating the crane across the site within a tight timeframe, a task they accomplished successfully.

Sarens was selected for this project due to its international expertise and proven track record with the client. Our company's ability to provide a comprehensive lifting solution, combined with the strategic location of its equipment and personnel, ensured the project's success.

The new pedestrian bridge will significantly benefit the Douai community, providing a safe and convenient passage for pedestrians and supporting the development of the EuraDouai business district. This infrastructure improvement is expected to boost the local economy and enhance the overall connectivity of the region.

Throughout the project, the CC 6800 crane performed exceptionally well, meeting all the technical requirements, and demonstrating the robustness and reliability that Sarens is known for. The project team, consisting of crane operators, rigging supervisors, and engineers, worked diligently to ensure the smooth execution of the lifts, overcoming logistical challenges, and adhering to the strict project timeline.

Sarens' involvement in this project underscores its capability to handle complex lifting operations with precision and efficiency. The successful completion of the pedestrian bridge in Douai is a testament to the company's commitment to excellence and its role in supporting critical infrastructure projects around the world.
