Sarens recently executed a complex project for K. Overdevest Transport. The project, located in Roosendaal, involved the lifting of a Gottwald crane, a crucial addition to the client's expanding operations.
The scope of the project was defined by the lifting of the Gottwald crane's undercarriage with its superstructure. This substantial investment by K. Overdevest Transport aimed to enhance their operational capabilities. Sarens was selected for this project due to their extensive experience with similar projects and a strong working relationship with the client.
During the planning phase, several critical aspects were meticulously addressed. The undercarriage with superstructure was initially estimated to weigh around 150T. However, after conducting a test lift, the actual weight was determined to be 173T. Four mobile cranes were selected for the lift:
· Two LTM1450 with 134T counterweights
· An AC700 with HaSSL and 160T counterweight
· An LTM1650 T5 with a 175T counterweight
The operation required two triangle spreaders and two regular spreaders, among other equipment, to ensure stability and safety during the lift. The equipment was chosen based on the weight and dimensions of the Gottwald crane's undercarriage, ensuring the operation could be conducted efficiently and safely.
The equipment was transported from Sarens' depots and set up in approximately three hours. Despite the careful planning, the project posed significant challenges, particularly the coordination required to lift four cranes simultaneously and the use of various spreaders due to the heavy lift.
The primary task was lifting the undercarriage with the superstructure of the Gottwald crane, weighing 173T. The lift was particularly challenging due to the weight of the item and the distance from the quay to the ship. A crew of 13 members was involved in the operation, working diligently to ensure precision and safety throughout the process.
