Our team at Sarens Buildwell Nigeria recently completed a remarkable transport operation, successfully delivering critical equipment for the Utorogu Gas Plant in Nigeria. This 450-kilometer journey from Lagos involved the complex movement of a debutaniser column measuring 40 meters by 3 meters by 4.2 meters and weighing 73 tons, along with a surge tank measuring 30 meters by 3 meters by 4.4 meters and weighing 80 tons.

The operation began with the precise loading of both pieces using two AC100 cranes. To ensure secure and stable transport, the team used a 600 HP prime mover and 24 axle lines to carry these massive components across varied terrain.

Given the size and sensitivity of the cargo, extensive pre-mobilisation work was essential to guarantee safe passage. The Sarens Buildwell Nigeria team conducted detailed route surveys to identify and mitigate potential obstacles, assessing bypasses, planning road improvements, and accounting for bridge height and cable clearance. In addition, our experts collaborated closely with governmental agencies to secure escort services and route approvals, enabling safe and efficient detours and ensuring the cargo arrived without incident.
