The Liebherr heavy lift crane series (HLC) was specially designed for the installation of offshore wind turbines and the installation and dismantling of offshore installations in the oil and gas industry. The HLC 295000 was severely damaged following an accident in the Port of Rostock.

Sarens was awarded by Liebherr to carry out the salvaging of the HLC 295000 in the Port of Rostock, Germany. The salvaging was carried out in phases including:

• At first the damaged crane was secured on the vessel to allow its movement to a different berth.
• Components were then recovered prior to the dismantling of the crane.
• Dismantling of HLC 295000.
• During salvage operation Sarens used three LR1750, one LG1150, one LTM1500, one LTM1200, one LTL1060 and some SPMT units. For the removal of the HLC slewing the Liebherr Rostock owned TCC 78000 in combination with a Sarens LR 11350 was used. 

Frank Busse, Technical Advisor in Customer Service for Offshore Cranes at Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock GmbH said about the execution: “Our thanks go to all those involved. The safe and trouble-free salvage work was only possible due to the excellent teamwork between Sarens, the contractor for the recovery work, the authorities involved, and our specialists from the Liebherr salvage team.” 

With a lifting capacity of up to 5000T at an outreach of 35 meters and a maximum lifting height of 175 meters above deck, the HLC 295000 is the largest offshore crane Liebherr has ever manufactured and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
