Sarens, the global leader in heavy lifting and engineered transport, proudly secured two prestigious wins at the 2024 ESTA Awards of Excellence - often dubbed the "Oscars" of the heavy lift and transport industry. The company’s exceptional projects in the Combined Techniques and Lattice Boom Cranes categories demonstrated outstanding innovation, precision, and execution under pressure.

The ESTA Awards of Excellence event is firmly established as the major annual event for the abnormal transport, crane rental and heavy lifting industry. Each year, participating companies submit their most challenging and innovative projects and developments for a prestigious ESTA Award. With 10 Award categories it sees more than 500 industry-related attendees.

In the Combined Techniques category, Sarens was recognised for its groundbreaking work on the Emile Hammerl bridge replacement in Bettembourg, Luxembourg. Working with Tralux and MBB, Sarens executed the complex removal and installation of curved steel Bowstring bridge sections within a confined and electrified railway environment. The key innovation was the debut of Sarens’ CS250 tilting system, which allowed precise movement of a 1000-tonne bridge section over overhead catenary lines. Through a controlled, sequential tilting process using eight jacking towers and advanced monitoring systems, Sarens delivered a seamless, safe, and efficient solution in record time, setting a new industry benchmark for bridge installation.

Sarens’ second award, in the Lattice Boom Cranes category, honoured its critical role in the development of the He Dreiht Offshore Wind Farm at the BUSS Terminal in Eemshaven, Netherlands. Tasked with handling and transporting 64 Transition Pieces (750 tonnes each) and 64 Monopiles (up to 1500 tonnes), Sarens deployed a fleet of powerful cranes - including the LR12500-1.0, CC9800, and CC8800-1 - alongside custom-configured SPMTs and the upgraded TP Handler 2.1. Despite challenges such as coordinating multiple stakeholders and tight 12-hour mobilisation windows, the Sarens team operated with 24/7 dedication to meet offshore vessel schedules, ensuring timely and safe delivery.

These dual honours reflect Sarens’ technical mastery and adaptability and strengthen its position as an industry pioneer in complex heavy-lift operations across sectors.

Carl Sarens, Director Technical Solutions and Projects at Sarens remarks, “We are deeply honoured to receive two prestigious ESTA Awards this year. These achievements reflect the passion and precision of our global teams.”
